  824. I did this using Resourcerer but it can be done with ResEdit
  825. just as easily. The opening banner (the Welcome to Hotline
  826. thing) is pretty easy to hack out actually. You want the two
  827. "banner" resources. They are MooV and GIFf. Simply open up a
  828. COPY (always work with a copy and not the original, just in
  829. case) of your HL 1.8 client with your resource editor of
  830. choice. Open one of the two resources mentioned above. Once
  831. opened you need to create a new resource. Save the empty
  832. resource and delete the resource with ID 128. Change the
  833. empty resource's ID # to 128 and save. Do the same to the
  834. other of the two resources. Once done, save completely out
  835. of your resource editor of choice. When you open your copy
  836. of your client it should work perfectly except no more
  837. opening banner. (If not, you did something wrong.) Replace
  838. the original with your new hacked copy and go. NOTE: THIS
  839. DOES NOT GET RID OF THE REGULAR BANNERS. I'm working on that

  876. Save the text file as "Hosts", minus quotes and drop it into
  877. your system folder. Open up your TCP/IP control panel. In
  878. the Edit menu, change the user mode to "Advanced" and click
  879. on "Select Hosts File..." button. Find the Hosts file in
  880. your system and select it. Save out of TCP/IP and restart
  881. your internet connection. All banners will be gone. This was
  882. not my hack as I predicted, but it was done the same way I
  883. was trying. I still have a lot to learn, but it's here for
  884. you anyway.

  886. Final thing. To get rid of the cookie file, create and empty
  887. text file and name it "Cookies" no quotes (the same as the
  888. real Cookies file) and save it into the Hotline Data folder
  889. where it usually saves the Cookie file. Then, get info on
  890. the empty text file (command-I) and check on the Locked box,
  891. lower, left-hand corner. This will not allow Hotline to save
  892. a cookie file to your drive any longer. This, plus the
  893. resource thing WERE my hacks so if they don't work, yell at
  894. me. =)
